Give me a word, Lord: ARE YOU COMING TO THE TABLE?

Psalm 107:9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

Wednesday morning, between meetings, I road over to the cow field with my husband to feed the calves. It was such a beautiful spring morning. As I finished pouring the feed into the crib feeder, Jeff let out his cattle call, and the stampede began. The cows and calves came running because they knew that food was on the table.

Dinner time on the farm is always a joyous occasion. Our critters big and small, are extremely spoiled. As soon as the chain rattles on the barn gate, we are met by some very excited animals. Everybody knows when it’s dinner time…even us humans. I can cook, but y’all, my husband creates! He could surely put a five star restaurant out of business if he opened a pop up diner next door. Believe me when I tell you that when my husband cooks, this girl runs to the table!

Let’s face it. We love getting fed. Eating is a requirement for survival, but there’s so much more to it than that. Eating brings joy. There is the pleasure in the taste of the food and also the enjoyment of the company we share our meals with. Sunday lunch is my favorite meal of the week. That is when the whole family comes together for a meal, sharing food, love, and laughter.

There is another table that we’ve all been invited to…the Lord’s table. Jesus is inviting each one of us. He doesn’t care if you are big, small, pretty, ugly, broken, bruised, or even if you’ve committed a sin or two or even a hundred. He loves us so much. At His table, we get fed spiritually. We fill up on joy incomparable. We feel love like we’ve never felt before. Jesus gave His life so that we may be made right with the Father. He came back three days later just as He would, and He is coming back to call us all to our heavenly home. He’s getting the table ready. I’m just waiting for His call. I can hear the chain rattling as He opens those pearly gates. I’m going to be there. Are you coming to the table?
