Give me a word, Lord: LAY THAT DOWN AT JESUS’ FEET

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Yesterday, I spoke of getting rid of our junk that was holding us back from a loving relationship with Christ. Did you lay that junk down yesterday? If you did, is it still at the feet of Jesus? Hmm.

If we are truly going to let Christ reign, we have to stop taking all of our stuff back like a bunch of two year old toddlers who believe “everything is mine.” We tend to believe that the problem or issue belongs to us…we may have created the problem, or we are deeply involved in the issue, or perhaps (and all to frequently) we are better at solving our own problems. (Yea, that always works great, doesn’t it?!)

I’m guilty. I take my problems to the feet of Jesus, and I lay those suckers down. I give them to Him to handle, but a few days go by. The problem hasn’t yet been settled. I get antsy. I become impatient, and then before you know it, I have my dirty little hands wrapped tightly around that one thing I gave to Christ to handle. I put it back in my pocket for safe keeping because “I know I can handle my problems better than the God who created the universe.” Say what? That really sounds ridiculous as I type these words. But isn’t it the truth, y’all? We do it all the time.

So, what are we to do? The answer is TRUST. Yes, it is as simple and as difficult as that sounds. We must learn to trust God fully. The God that created the universe, that gave His Son to die on the cross for your sins and mine, that gave us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, yes that God. He has proven that He is trustworthy beyond measure, yet we seem to forget this time and time again.

What are you struggling with today? Are you struggling to manage your finances? Lay that down at Jesus’ feet. Are you struggling in your marriage? Lay that down at Jesus’ feet. Are you struggling with addiction? Lay that down at Jesus’ feet. Are you struggling with over indulgence at the dinner table? Lay that down at Jesus’ feet. Does your attitude stink? Lay that down at Jesus’ feet. Are you having trouble on the job? Lay that down at Jesus’ feet. Whatever the issue is, no matter how big or how small, take it Jesus and LEAVE IT THERE! Then, repent and walk away. Keep those hands in your pockets. Sit on them if you need to, and do whatever it takes to leave that stuff there.

Jesus loves us immensely. There is no greater love than His love for you and me. We can trust Him fully with every ounce of our beings. So, today, trust Him. Lay that junk down at Jesus’ feet. He’s got you!
