Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Early last spring, Jeff hung some outdoor string lights that run from our outdoor kitchen all the way around the edge of the back deck. A few nights ago, We hadn’t plugged the lights in for a log while, and when Jeff plugged them in, to our surprise only the first string of lights lit up. By the light of a flashlight our son, Conner, checked the fuses in the second strand, but still no light. Jeff then shined the flashlight down the strings of light, and he quickly discovered the problem. The wire was cut! Apparently a squirrel decided to chew the wire into. We had lost our connection. Fortunately for us, and that little squirrel, I happened to have had a spare string of lights so the connection was quickly re-established, and light once again overcame darkness.
Sometimes little squirrels sneak into our lives and our connection to Christ seems to get cut off. We feel far removed from God, and we feel like we have to handle life on our own. Our light has gone out. We are lost in the dark.
Fortunately for us, we don’t have to remain in the dark. Our light is just a prayer away! Just think about it, Peeps! All of the power of heaven is available to us! That, my friends, is quite an amazing thought!
When we were on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic, the pastor told a story about a man who kept praying to God to give him things to fill up his home. He went room by room filling up the house with so many material things. As he filled each room up, he moved God to the next room because there wasn’t room for Him there. After he finally had all the stuff he thought he needed, he had moved God outside. He slowly began to feel very lonely, and he started praying. He asked God why he had left him. God replied, “I never left you. You pushed me away.”
We need to keep this in mind. God NEVER leaves us. When we can’t feel His presence, when we feel we’ve lost our connection, it is very likely that we have pushed Him away. He didn’t leave. We just got busy doing our own thing and chasing our own squirrels…the very same squirrels that where cutting our line of connection.
Fixing the connection is so easy. The Light is still right there where you left Him. He’s waiting for you to reconnect, and all you have to do is call out His name. Pray. Talk to the Father. Ask Him into your life. There is nothing like the light of Christ to fill you up and keep you going. Be filled with the Light, and let your light shine today!
