But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit. Psalm 51:10-12
Do you ever get weary? Do you ever feel tired? Boy oh boy, this girl right here has felt some kind of weary and tired lately. I’m so tired somedays that my coffee needs coffee! It’s been a crazy year in the general, and it has definitely been crazy in the medical field. I leave the clinic completely exhausted at the end of the day. Between putting on PPE to go outside and evaluate and screen for COVID 19 to suturing lacerations, splitting fractures, to treating all sorts of chronic and acute illnesses, there isn’t any time to relax or refresh…at least not until I get in the car to drive home. God knew what He was doing when He placed me at a clinic that is a 25 minute drive from home. I get 25 whole minutes to pray and praise Him on my way to work, and I get 25 minutes to unwind while listening to a sermon and praying on my way home. Yep, He rigged it. Today, I’m doing home visits. He rigged that too. I’m going to be working, but it isn’t like work at all. I get to spend time in the home of patients, one on one, evaluating and teaching, unhurried, doing what I love. After a long day today, I may be tired, but I’ll also be refreshed. Not only that, God provides physical refreshment through time with family and friends, and let’s not forget that big old bed we get to crawl into every night and get refreshing physical rest!
Sometimes in our spiritual walk we get weary similar to the way our physical walk wears us down. How do we get refreshed spiritually? The answer is pretty much the same. We have to rest in the Lord! Sounds silly, huh? But it’s true! We try to do everything on our own. We tend to have an “I got this” mentality, when in reality, we don’t have it at all! Without Christ, we don’t have anything. With Him, we have all that we will ever need. When we quit trying to do everything on our own, and we start relying on Christ more and more and on ourselves less and less, we won’t grow weary. Rather will gain strength spiritually. When we get in His word and speak to Him in prayer, we are refreshed and renewed and strengthened spiritually. Yep. He has that rigged too,, for our good and His glory! Let Christ refresh you today! There’s nothing better than sipping a refreshing drink of the living water!
