Give me a word, Lord: CALM AFTER THE STORM

Psalm 107:28-31 “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble,  and he saved them from their distress. He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor!
Let them praise the Lord for his great love  and for the wonderful things he has done for them.

(I’m a little late posting today….no electicity = no wifi and very little 4G makes it hard to post a blog, but the good Lord helped me through as always. God prevails!)

Hurricane Zeta arrived late yesterday evening. She made landfall a couple of hours to our west in Grand Isle, LA, and she came right over the city of New Orleans, Slidell, and eventually over our little town in Mississippi around 8:30 pm. The rain came down hard and fast. The winds raged. She passed through quickly, and by 9:30, she was gone. Our little creek behind the house was swelling way out of its banks, and the waters approached the corner post of our back deck. Our half mile long driveway was flooded. A large pine tree fell across the driveway. Leaves, small limbs, and debris littered the ground. The electricity went out, and it is still out, but that’s it. The winds raged. The flooding rain fell, but our home, our lives, and our animals are all safe and sound.

This morning we awoke to a cool, gentle breeze. The sun is shining down on us. There is peace and calmness and stillness. There is nothing to fear. The lack of electricity is only a tiny little hiccup in our giddy up. We have a generator running to keep our freezers going, and I can even make coffee. All is well. Praise the Lord!

In our daily walk as Christians, we encounter multiple storms in life, but we must remember, just like a hurricane, the storms of life never last. They rage on for a little while, but sooner or later they pass, and when they pass, there is the stillness and peace and calm that our Lord and Savior freely gives. If you are in the middle of one of life’s storms right now, don’t fret. Seek shelter in the arms of Christ, pray, and seek the Lord. He will protect you and guide you through any and every storm.

“For the Lord is the one who shaped the mountains, stirs up the winds, and reveals his thoughts to mankind. He turns the light of dawn into darkness and treads on the heights of the earth. The Lord God of Heaven’s Armies is his name!” Amos 4:13. Our God shaped mountains. He stirs up and controls the winds. He turns light into darkness. Don’t you think He can handle any storm that you are facing? He can, and He will, if only you place your faith in Him. And oh what joy you will have when the storm passes, and you get to rest in the beauty of the calm after the storm. Let go, and let God have control today! Praise His name for the calm after the storm!
